May 2017 Ipsy Unbagging

So, I’m throwing a little switcharoo here. You may or may not know that I’ve decided to trade my Boxycharm subscription for Ipsy just to try something a little different. While I thought I would love receiving full-size products, it was getting to be a bit much. Trial sizes seemed more practical, and I like the variety of cosmetic brands Ipsy has in their service.

If you don’t know, Ipsy is a monthly makeup subscription service where you receive a cute (& actually useable) makeup bag with five trial-sized products for you to test out. I also love that the bag design is completely different every month! When signing up, you fill out a questionnaire where you specify things such as your skin tone, eye color, hair color, brand preferences, types of products you like, etc. in order to personalize your experience. If you don’t like a product, you can rate it and be sure you never receive anything like it again. My favorite part is that it’s only $10 a month!

This was my first month of Ipsy, and I was excited about the products I received:

  1. Pure Brazilian Nourishing Hair Oil
This ended up in my bag because I specified that I liked hair oils and have dry, frizzy hair. I’ve used it a few times on dry hair and haven’t noticed much smoothing, but it does make my hair smell very nice and feel soft. I’m going to try applying it to damp hair and see if that helps any.
  2. Urban Decay Afterglow in “Sin”
Highlighters are something I like to receive because I rarely go out of my way to buy them (they all start looking the same to me after awhile). They also last forever, so I don’t feel you need too many different ones. I do really like this one, though. It’s not super subtle, but it’s also not BAM! in your face. It could also double as a really pretty, shimmery eyeshadow.
  3. pur~lisse BB Tinted Moist Cream in “Light”
I haven’t had a chance to really test this one out because my skin has been going through a little freak-out session (yay stress!). For that reason, I’ve been trying to avoid applying heavy product. I did swatch it, and it looks like a close match to my skin tone. I also like the fact that it has a built in SPF. Since the formula is creamy, it seems like it would feel good on the skin, but I’ll test it out and see!
  4. Luxie Dreamcatcher Precision Foundation Brush 660
This full-size foundation brush is so soft! It retails at $23, so I consider it a steal. I don’t normally use brushes to apply foundations, but I could see myself using this for bronzer or highlighter. I also love the periwinkle color of the handle.
  5. trèStiQue Mini Matte Lip Crayon in Tuscan Wine
Don’t be fooled by this product’s appearance: the pencil top is actually a cap! The product itself has a rounded tip just like a crayon. The color is very pretty and it feels great on the lips. It is not transfer-proof and it does smudge if you rub it, but I don’t mind that. It’s a perfect size to carry around in your bag for on-the-go lip color.

So far, Ipsy has made a great first impression. I’m excited to see what’s in next month’s bag!
