KKW x Kylie Cosmetics Review

I rarely ever buy a product right when it’s released. Something about it has to catch my attention immediately in order to compel me enough to purchase. The last time I bought something on release day was the debut of the Too Faced Sweet Peach palette. I personally don’t like having to fight to buy something, so I’d rather just wait and see if it’s worth getting. There are times, however, where I see something I really want, and dammit, I’m going to get it.

Obviously this KKW x Kylie Cosmetics collection caught my eye, and so I ordered it on the second launch date. I have never tried any of Kylie’s other products (I’m not huge into long-wearing, matte lipsticks), so when I saw this was a ‘créme’ formula in all of my favorite lip colors, I decided to give it a shot.

I’ll start off by saying it took forever for them to arrive at my doorstep! I’m an impatient person, so this was a little frustrating. However, I figured there would be some type of delay because I know they had gotten a ton of orders between the two launches. It took 9 business days before the package even shipped, but once it finally did I received it two days later.

The packaging for this collection is absolutely stunning. I love the frosted glass look of the tubes and the light pink color scheme. The box they come in is a lot sturdier than I thought – it almost has a soft, suede feel to it. I like that I have something to store them in so I can keep them all together rather than some bulky cardboard I would normally just throw in the recycling bin.

Some people don’t prefer the formula of these lipsticks, but I personally love it! It’s silky and creamy with a hint of shine. The overall feel of them is very comfortable; I would definitely consider these a great pick for ‘everyday’ wear. They are definitely transfer-prone and rub off very easily, but it isn’t much to take it with you and reapply when needed. The initial application is pretty sheer, so I’d recommend applying two coats for full color payoff.

KKW x Kylie Cosmetics Lip Swatches

I am in love with all four shades in this collection. In fact, I would never have purchased it if I didn’t like all of the colors. While they all look pretty similar in shade as they sit in their box, once applied you can really start to see the difference. As you go from left to right (Kimberly, Kim, Kiki, Kimmie), the shades get noticeably darker and pinker: Kimberly is the most nude while Kimmie is the most pink. It’s really hard for me to pick a favorite color, but if I had to, I’d probably say Kimmie.

Overall, I’m really pleased with the collection. $45 ($11.25 per lipstick) isn’t too bad of a price to pay, but it would be cool if at some point they were sold individually.

A Beauty Wishlist

Since I’ve put myself on a strict spending budget, I thought it would be a fun idea to make a beauty wishlist I can slowly chip away at whenever I’m ready to give myself a “splurge allowance” (which probably won’t be for awhile if we’re being honest…) Regardless, these are all things that I’ve wanted to try based on ads I’ve seen or raving reviews by beauty influencers.

  • Benefit Gimme Brow ($24)
I’m not ashamed to say that my brows could use a little help once in awhile. They’re a little difficult to work with because they’re feisty little devils, so anything that makes my life easier is a godsend! I’ve heard lots of good things about Benefit’s brow products, though I’ve never given them a try for myself. They are a little on the pricey side, and I personally like to be sure the product is good before I splurge! The majority of reviews are positive, so I don’t think it could hurt to try it out sometime.
  • Tarte Shape Tape Concealer ($25)
I’ll start off by saying that this product has stellar reviews on every site I’ve seen! Concealer is one of those things I won’t leave the house without wearing, so it’s a pretty important part of my beauty routine. My only worry is that it will be too full coverage for me to wear on minimal makeup days, but I’ve definitely been wanting to try it!
  • NARS Orgasm Blush ($30)
There was a sample of this blush in one of my magazines, and I immediately fell in love once I tried it! It is the prettiest blush I’ve ever worn, and I’m actually surprised that I haven’t gotten around to buying the full size yet. The color itself is very flattering, and it has just the right amount of shimmer. I can’t rave about it enough!
  • Too Faced Unicorn Tears Lipstick ($22)
This is one I’m kind of throwing on here just for fun since there’s a unicorn craze going around. While it reminds me of costume makeup a bit, I still think it’s a very unique and interesting color. I could see it looking really cool layered on top of a different lipstick, but I don’t see it as an ‘everyday’ color. Still gorgeous, though!
  • Benefit Hoola Lite Bronzer ($29)
My skin is naturally very pale, and as a result bronzer can look kind of strange against my white skin. I’ve been eyeing this bronzer ever since they announced it because it looks like a perfect alternative to the mass of bronzers that are already out there. I’m really hoping I can give it a try at some point!

And that concludes my wishlist at this moment in time. I’m sure it will grow longer as I think of new things, but for my wallet’s sake, I think this is a good enough start.

The Nude Lipstick Edit

Everyone loves a good, nude lip. Speaking of, has anyone else been eyeing the Kylie Cosmetics KKW collection? I may or may not have placed an order for it already…the colors look absolutely gorgeous!

Anywho, today I thought I’d share with you some of my favorite nude lipsticks that I have in my collection. Almost all are pink nudes since I feel like pink compliments my skin tone better than beige nudes.

The Nude Lipstick Edit

  1. Real Her “I Will Succeed”
This color is a very gorgeous classic nude. It’s also the most resilient formula I have ever tried. I had to scrub the swatch with a makeup-removing wipe for several minutes in order to get it to come off! If you love a long-lasting matte lip, this brand definitely knows what it’s doing.
  2. Colourpop “Littlestitious”
“Littlestitious” is a bit more daring as far as nudes go. It is a very, very pale pink color and the undertones are on the cool side. I personally wouldn’t wear it for ‘everyday’, but I think it looks great paired with a dramatic eye.
  3. Milani “Bahama Beige”
I love Milani products, and their lipsticks are no exception. This color is so beautiful and natural-looking, and I love the formula. It’s not long-lasting, but honestly I prefer a smooth, creamy formula that doesn’t make my lips feel dry.
  4. Milani “Nude Créme”
Same comments as above, but this lipstick is pink instead of beige. This is one of my go-to lip colors because it’s so effortless; it adds a hint of natural-looking color and the formula is comfortable to wear.
  5. NYX “Spirit”
Here we have another classic nude. I love to use this as a base color with a gloss on top; it makes a stunning combination!

Self-Tanning Products Worth Purchasing

Though I’m not the most consistent self-tanner applier, I have tried several tanning products over the course of my adolescent and adult lives. I believe I was 12 or 13 when I tried self-tanner for the first time, and I can honestly say I had NO idea what I was doing. Unfortunately, I had an orange phase. Like a really, really orange, streaky, splotchy phase and I’m not proud of it…yikes.

Then it finally hit me: stop trying to force your skin to be something it’s not meant to be! I have very pale skin, so as you would imagine, going 10 shades darker wasn’t exactly the best way to approach things.

While I used to not like the Jergens Natural Glow Fair to Medium formula because it didn’t ‘do anything’ for me, I have actually really grown to like the subtle color that it creates. It adds a hint of color without completely altering my appearance and making me look unnatural.

I’ve tried all kinds of tanning products from different brands (both high-end and not), and I always come back to Jergens because they have really great products. They have been in my life on and off for over 10 years! Besides, you’re supposed to moisturize your skin everyday anyway, so I figure why not add a subtle color into the mix for summer.

The three products featured here today are the Jergens Natural Glow Gradual Tanner ‘Fair to Medium, Jergens Natural Glow Face Gradual Tanner in ‘Medium to Tan’, and the Jergens Natural Glow Instant Sun Tanning Mousse in ‘Deep Bronze’.

You’re probably thinking, “That’s a broad range of skin colors you got going there.” It seems crazy, but I have my reasons!

I use the tanning mousse very sparingly, once every week or two whenever I feel like I need a boost. They didn’t have the ‘Light Bronze’ mousse at the store the day I went, and I reeeally wanted to try it so I went ahead and bought the ‘Deep Bronze.’ It actually doesn’t give that much color initially! The formula is definitely buildable; I used it for a few days in a row and got pretty tan (a bit too tan for my taste), so I think if you’re looking to build some color this is a great affordable option! It’s also a long-lasting formula; it lasts several days before it starts to fade. The consistency is very foamy and there is a slight color guard so you can see what you’re doing. The formula is a bit sticky after it’s been sitting on your skin for awhile, but I apply it right before bed and shower in the morning so I don’t really notice. It smells alright for a self-tanner, too!

The gradual tanner lotion in ‘Fair to Medium’ is what I use to moisturize and maintain color throughout the week. I apply every night before bed, and in the morning I wake up with a hint of color and soft skin! This is the product I’ve been using on and off for years and it’s always been my go-to tanning product. The only places I notice it gets a little funky is on my feet and wrists, but that’s just a common thing in all self-tanners. Other than that, it’s smooth, even color all around!

For my face, I use the gradual tanner lotion for the face in ‘Medium to Tan’. The reason I go darker for my face is because I’ve noticed that it tends to wear off quicker on your face than it does on your body. Since I wash my face twice a day and exfoliate occasionally, the color payoff just isn’t enough in the lighter version.

Normally, I’m really bad about keeping up with my self-tanning routine, but when I’m in the mood for a little color I love using Jergens’ products. They’re my favorite that I’ve tried over the years!

May 2017 Goals

A new month means a new list of goals! April was a great month. I feel like I accomplished my two main goals: establishing regular exercise and blogging routines. I’m really proud that I consistently had multiple posts every week, and I’m also feeling great now that I’m back into yoga and walking again. I did read a book, 13 Reasons Why (you can check out my thoughts here), and I know I will always be working on my photography and eating healthier. Might as well chalk those up as lifetime goals!

As for May, I’m hoping to:

  1. Spend smarter.
April was a bad month for my bank account. Not sure what came over me, but I could not put the credit card down! For May, I’ve decided to give myself a budget for my frivolous spending. I always tell myself that I work hard for my money and that I deserve to buy things I want (otherwise, what’s the point?). However, with my husband paying for school out-of-pocket and just the want to be more financially responsible in general (a.k.a. that Roth IRA isn’t going to fund itself), I knew I needed to chill out with the spending. I will still buy myself things, just not as much as I was.
  2. Train with my husband.
I really would like my body to get stronger, so my husband (who is very much into fitness) offered to help me train in order to achieve that goal. While I am going to continue my morning yoga sessions 4-5 times a week, I know it’s not enough for the amount of sitting I do every day. He’s giving me mini intensive workouts in the evening a few times a week, and so far it’s going good! I’m definitely feeling the burn…
  3. Have productive training sessions with my dog.
We’ve signed our dog, Pickles, up for a 7 week dog training course that starts this month. He is a little reactive to other dogs and humans; a lot of it stems from his anxiety, and the class is supposed to be specifically designed for dogs just like him. We would eventually love to be able to take him to the park and other public places, so we’re going to work really hard to help him overcome some of his anxieties.

It’s a very short list this time, but obviously my April goals are carrying over into this month as well!
